Are you an experienced mechanical design professional with a passion for leadership?

Due to an internal promotion, we have an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Design Manager to lead our team in Auckland.

 

About the Role:

As the Mechanical Design Manager, you will lead and manage our APAC Mechanical Design team, delivering high-quality, timely and budget-aligned engineering solutions. You'll be responsible for driving design excellence, overseeing team performance and contributing to strategic business planning.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage design engineers across NZ and support teams in Australia and India
  • Set clear expectations, manage team resources and oversee training and development
  • Ensure project deadlines and budgets are met through effective scheduling and monitoring
  • Provide technical direction on mechanical development and design processes
  • Oversee department budgets, performance metrics and quality assurance initiatives
  • Support sales efforts with technical input, cost estimation, and customer engagement
  • Drive continuous improvement and uphold ISO9001 quality standards

Profile required

What You Bring:

  • 10+ years’ experience in Mechanical Design within an industrial or manufacturing context
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or relevant Engineering discipline
  • Proven leadership in managing multi-disciplinary teams and engineering projects
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills
  • Expertise in design software and office communication tools
  • High attention to detail, exceptional organisational skills, and a proactive mindset
  • Ability to travel occasionally and work flexibly across time zones
