About the Role:
This role will lead and support the automation engineers in the design, implementation, and commissioning for Alstef's Brisbane Airport project. You will be responsible for mentoring and training commissioning engineers, supporting the challenging cutovers of the existing system, and ensuring the smooth integration of new automation solutions. Your expertise will be key in guiding the team through the complexities of system upgrades, on-site commissioning, and the seamless handover of the completed systems.
As a senior engineer, you will manage the technical execution of the project, ensuring that Alstef’s high standards for quality, safety, and performance are met. You will collaborate with project stakeholders, engineers, and contractors to deliver an integrated and efficient baggage handling system at Brisbane Airport.
Key Responsibilities:
- Project Leadership and Coordination: Lead the automation engineering team for the Brisbane Airport baggage handling project, ensuring tasks align with timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
- Mentoring and Training: Mentor junior engineers, providing guidance during commissioning and cutover activities to ensure adherence to best practices.
- System Design and Implementation: Oversee the design and development of PLC/SCADA systems, ensuring they meet project requirements for efficiency and safety.
- On-Site Commissioning and Cutover Support: Lead system commissioning and cutovers, ensuring seamless integration with existing infrastructure and resolving issues during transitions.
- Documentation and Reporting: Ensure all project documentation (e.g., FDS, test procedures) is accurate, up-to-date, and compliant with project requirements.
- System Support and Optimization: Provide ongoing technical support post-commissioning, troubleshoot issues, and optimize system performance.

Profile required
Skills & Experience:
To be successful in this role, you should have strong experience in baggage handling or material handling systems, particularly in the design, implementation, and commissioning of large-scale automation systems. You will also need to demonstrate leadership capabilities, technical proficiency in automation technologies, and clear communication skills to manage projects and collaborate with stakeholders effectively.
Key requirements include:
- Baggage Handling Experience: At least 5 years of experience in designing, implementing, or commissioning baggage handling systems.
- PLC/SCADA Expertise: Proven experience in designing, configuring, and commissioning PLC/SCADA systems for industrial automation.
- Project Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams and manage large-scale automation projects, ensuring timelines and budgets are met.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering: A degree in software, electrical, computer systems, or mechatronics engineering is required.
- Technical Proficiency: Expertise in developing and implementing PLC, HMI, and SCADA software solutions, with knowledge of control systems and distributed computing.
- Clear Communication: Strong ability to communicate complex technical information clearly to internal teams and external stakeholders, including clients and contractors
