Minor Works Technician Mechanical
About the Role
Alstef Australia is growing and this role and team will be a big part of this growth, we are seeking an experienced Minor Works Technician (Mechanical) who will carry out Minor Works installations on the equipment within Airport Services and Parcel handling sites. This role is responsible for performing all required installation works, preventative, reactive and corrective maintenance, as well as creating and maintaining a safe and healthy working environment. The Minor Works Technician will when necessary fill in as a Shift Relief to ensure staffing levels are adequate across sites and locations.
Location – Based out of Brisbane airport but the Technician must be happy to travel to other sites including Perth, Adelaide and Melbourne when required
$57.86 per hour all inclusive as per EBA agreement - Brisbane Airport Operations and Maintenance Agreement 2024 + benefits
Hours – full time
Key Responsibilities
- Installing and aligning conveyor belt components (rollers, bearings, shafts, pulleys).
- Conducting mechanical repairs and replacing worn parts.
- Welding and machining metal components if required.
- Ensuring correct tensioning of conveyor belts to prevent slippage or excessive wear.
- Lubrication and general mechanical maintenance
- Co-ordination and implementation of Effective Maintenance Plan
- Complete all necessary paperwork / reports and Inventory records accurately
- Working in line with all Airport / Site service levels and to Alstef standards
- Supervision and daily operations – complying with all heath and safety policies and client security
- Be prepared to work in varied environments – including office, mechanical conveyor and baggage rooms and heavy lifting is required (up to 40kgs) and climbing required. There may be some outdoor work required.
- Ensure compliance with ISO 9001, ISO 14000, and ISO 45000 standards
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives for cost reduction, process optimisation, and system enhancements.

Profile required
About you
- Mechanical trade qualification or equivalent
- Background in the Baggage Handling, Automation or Aviation industry with experience with the mechanical aspects of a conveyor system
- Have or be able to obtain an OH&S certificate, elevated work platform license, forklift license, first aid certificate – desirable not essential as we will support this
- Ability to work with MS Word and Excel
- PLC experience in an automation environment
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrates good initiative and continuous improvement mindset
- Stakeholder management skills
- Able to lift 40kgs
- Permanent work rights in Australia
